From The Quiet Man to 'An Cailín Ciúin'
A celebration of Irish film, and the role played by music in telling the great stories of Irish cinema.
Ronan Collins celebrates the journey of Irish Film music from The Quiet Man, Harry's Game, the Field, The Commitments to the more recent scores of The Banshees of Inisheerin and The Quiet Girl.
A cosy afternoon with performances of music from some iconic soundtracks such as Mná na hÉireann (Barry Lyndon), Falling Slowly (Once), Isle of Inisfree (The Quiet Man) etc, interspersed with some chat and discussions. Experience film clips on the evolution of soundtracks from those scored by Hollywood composers through to the emergence of Seán O'Riada and the use of traditional instruments, to the growth of our own international performers and composers, and how this might reflect the changing identity of Ireland over those years.
Hothouse Flowers singer Fiachna o Braonain plus Award-Winning composers Stephen Rennicks and Sarah Lynch will join us to chat about their scores to An Cailín Ciúin, Normal People and The Dry. They will also speak about the role of women in Irish film music and we'll have a montage celebrating soundtracks featuring Sinead O'Connor, Dolores O'Riordain, Moya Brennan.
Soprano Alex Sharpe from Celtic Woman and Tenor Daryl Simpson from The Celtic Tenors will perform selected material from through the ages.
